24 hour Chekhov readings have begun

The Chekhov Lives project has begun its marathon session of readings from one of Russia’s most celebrated writers, Anton Chekhov (d.1904).

Beginning at midday today (Moscow Time), over a 24-hour period 700 readers across more than 20 locations worldwide will read plays and short stories by Chekhov, known for such works as Three Sisters (1901) and The Cherry Orchard (1904). Readers will link directly to Moscow from as far afield as New York, London and Hong Kong.

Bringing together literature, theatre and modern technology, the project is being completed with the support of Google. Chekhov enthusiasts around the world can tune into a live stream on YouTube.
