Iza Tarasewicz has been announced the winner of the Views competition, which exists to support the the development of young Polish artists.
The winner, chosen from among five finalists, was announced during the gala ceremony on 22 October.
Iza Tarasewicz (b.1981) is a sculptor, draughtswoman and performer. She is known for using simple materials, such as clay, plaster, concrete, glass, asphalt and animal fat in her practice of interpreting, collecting, deconstructing and reorganising social, historical and ideological systems. Her project for the competition, TURBA, TURBO, examines her preoccupation with chaos theory, information and matter compression, and the visual effects of those processes.
The second prize was won by Ada Karczmarczyk (b.1985), a multimedia artist, performer, blogger, composer and singer who imbues her work with elements of pop culture and Christian symbolism. She performs under the stage name ADU, styling herself as a Catholic pop music superstar and records pop-style music videos. Her project for the Views competition explores the issue of the feminine nature of the Church.
The other finalists were sculpture and installation artist Alicja Bielawska, visual artist Piotr Łakomy, and visual artist and draughtswoman Agnieszka Piksa.
The competition, which has taken place every two years since 2003, was organised this year by the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, Deutsche Bank Polska S.A. and Deutsche Bank AG.
