The seventh edition of the ReAnimania International Animation Film Festival begins today in the Armenian capital, Yerevan.
In collaboration with the Armenian Ministry of Culture, the festival organisers will screen over 400 animated films between 28 October and 3 November, as well as inaugurating a gallery of comic art.
The festival jury will consider 184 films officially entered into competition, with prizes awarded for Best Feature, Best Short, Best Music Video, Best Educational Film and Best Student Film. The festival also features documentary and experimental strands, as well as a special section entitled “Rebirth”, featuring animated films dedicated to the centenary of the Armenian genocide.
The festival will open with a gala presentation of much-hyped French animation Mune, directed by Benoit Phillipon and Alexandre Heboyan, and close with The Prophet by Roger Allers. Based on the 1923 work by Lebanese author Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet is produced by Mexican actress Salma Hayek, who also stars alongside Liam Neeson and Frank Langella.
