The 29th edition of the Kinomania film festival opens today in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia.

60 films are due to be screened at the festival, including a selection of winners from this year’s Cannes, Venice and Berlin film festivals.

This year there will be an additional focus on Bulgarian cinema, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. In honour of the centenary, seven Bulgarian films will be screened, including Losers by director Ivaylo Hristov, which took home the top prize at this year’s Moscow International Film Festival and will open the festival today.

Kinomania began in 1987 under the name World Film Panorama. This year’s festival will take place from 12 – 29 November at the National Palace of Culture. A full programme can be found on the website of the National Palace of Culture (in Bulgarian).
