The organisers of the Milan Expo have asked Hungary not to remove its pavilion from the Expo site, in order for it to become part of a campus of the Italian Institute of Technology.

According to government commissioner for the expo Géza Szőcs, organisers sent an official request to Hungary on 8 January asking for Hungary’s “The Garden of Life” pavilion to remain in place. Mr Szőcs called the request a major success and sign of recognition of Hungary and the work of the pavilion’s designers and builders, given that only five countries have been requested to leave their pavilion on the Expo site, which is set to become a research campus. The Hungarian government is due to make a decision on this question shortly.

Hungary’s pavilion was going to be relocated to Hungary and turned into an equestrian museum. It became a source of controversy earlier this year, drawing criticism both from architects and the general public for its distinct design.
