21 January 2016

According to figures released today, more than eight million school pupils took part in “Coding Hour” in December.

“Coding Hour” is an educational campaign, in which students learn the basics of programming. As part of the programme for 2015, the second edition of “Coding Hour”, pupils were able to write their first piece of programming code and watch video lectures by successful Russian IT-entrepreneurs. 85 per cent of Russian schools took part in activities relating to coding from 4 – 13 December 2015, with approximately 350,000 special activities taking place throughout the country.

The Ministry of Education noted that in 2015 Russian students took first place in the team event at the International Olympiad in Informatics, together with South Korea, China and the United States, winning three gold medals and one silver medal. The Ministry expects that the success of “Coding Hour” will contribute to the continuing improvement of results in this field.
