Macedonian Culture Minister Elizabeta Kanceska–Milevska has announced that the Ministry of Culture will support up to 61 cultural projects as part of its latest call for funding applications from across the creative industries.
The projects selected for support include digital ceramics, design products which feature the Cyrillic alphabet and a fashion collection using 3D printing, along with several projects by NGOs looking to help vulnerable groups in society.
According to Ms Kanceska–Milevska, the goal of the government support is to encourage young people to develop creative potential and innovative products that will produce a financially profitable brand.
“These projects have aesthetic, original, practical [...] value, and evident creativity, innovation and sustainability in the fields of visual arts, graphic design, multimedia design, industrial design, product design and fashion design, as well as events, festivals, conferences and forums,” Ms Kanceska–Milevska stated.
211 projects have received financial support since the first call for applications in 2013. The Culture Ministry has provided MKD 5.5 million (approx. US$100,000) across the previous three calls and has provided funding for the opening of the Centre for Design & Innovation Public Room, which offers a space for creatives to present their products. A dedicated children’s workshop is expected to open later this year.
