The Russian city of Sochi, a popular beach and ski resort situated on the Black Sea, plans to host a competition for the longest kiss in celebration of Valentine’s Day.

The organisers hope that the contest, which will be held on a mountaintop where oxygen levels are low, might set a national record for the longest kiss.

“In the evening, all couples in love who will be present will be invited to draw a lot of air into their lungs and engage in the longest kiss at a height of about 1,000 meters above sea level,” a spokesperson for Sochi’s Gorki Gorod resort was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency, adding that if a record is set, it may be entered into the Russian Book of Records.

At the end of the competition, the couples are set to launch 500 heart-shaped balloons into the sky. The resort will also host a Valentine’s Day-themed skiing contest, in which couples will compete for the title of “best mountain-skiing couple”.
