Preparations for the filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII in Dubrovnik have begun.
Shooting for the film is set to take place from 9 — 16 March, but tents have already been put up in the old town to accommodate the production crew and parts of the set are under construction on Stradun, Dubrovnik’s main street.
Heightened security measures will be implemented around the old town as the filming date approaches. It has also been reported that the film’s production crew will employ drones to prevent unauthorised camera drones from filming or taking photos of the set.
The film is set to star Oscar-winning actor Benicio Del Toro, as well as Laura Dern of Jurassic Park and Enlightened fame, and it is anticipated that Del Toro will be in Dubrovnik for filming in March.
Shooting for Star Wars: Episode VIII is the most expensive film production (per day) to ever take place in Croatia, with the filming expected to bring 5 million euros (approx. US$5.5 million) to the country.
