Journalists reject call by Putin for income disclosure

Russian journalists have rejected a call by President Vladimir Putin for them to disclose information regarding their income.

The president’s recommendation formed part of the National Anti-Corruption Plan, which was published on the Kremlin’s official website on 1 April.

“We recommend that media professionals and other workers whose professional activity is connected with the provision of public interest and attracting increased public attention, publish information on their income, expenses, assets and property obligations on official websites or publish the above information in the mass media,” the document read.

In response, Russia’s trade union of journalists said that they would not comply with the recommendations in a statement on their Facebook page.

“We thank the Kremlin for the recommendation, but when it comes to income and expenses, we are able to deal with those ourselves,” the statement said.
