Hungarian filmmaker László Nemes, whose debut feature Son of Saul took home Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Oscars, is set to shoot his second film in 2017.
In an interview with Screen Daily, the director spoke of his hopes to film Sunset in Budapest in spring next year, adding that he would work with the same crew as on Son of Saul, which includes cinematographer Mátyás Erdély, and producer Gábor Sipos from Hungary’s Laokoon Cinema, the production company behind his debut.
“We’ve already started testing and I’m looking forward to working with the same crew,” Nemes stated, noting that the film will follow the story of a young woman in Budapest in 1910.
The filmmaker also told Screen Daily that he is still looking to cast the female lead for Sunset and plans to shoot and edit on 35mm film, while he anticipates making an English-language film after Sunset.
“I want to make an English-speaking project after the one that will shoot next year,” said Nemes, adding that he would consider working with studios in the USA.
