Acclaimed Serbian director Emir Kusturica, together with his representatives, has denied accusing the Cannes Film Festival of political bias.

It was reported earlier this week that the filmmaker had accused the festival of bias, claiming that his latest film, On the Milky Road, was rejected due to his support for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mirko Radenović, promoter of Kusturica’s band, The No Smoking Orchestra, in Russia, the Baltic states and former Soviet countries, told The Hollywood Reporter that the Russian news agency that originally reported the story (NSN) had got its facts wrong.

“The story is not true. It’s the journalists who are not correct. [...] It’s not clear [about Cannes]. [...] For that reason, I do not wish to make [any] further comment,” Mr Radenović stated.
