Zaha Hadid Architects win Moscow technopark competition

Zaha Hadid Architects have won an international contest to design a building for a technopark in Moscow, said to be the Russian capital’s answer to Silicon Valley.

The large-scale project will see the firm design the Sberbank Technopark building, which will be located at the Skolkovo Innovation Centre, a facility close to Moscow that will be home to up and coming biomedical, energy, IT, nuclear and space innovation companies.

Sberbank’s Skolkovo facility will become the bank’s headquarters for IT innovation and accommodate between 10,000-12,000 employees from the IT and marketing departments. With an area due to total 131,000 square metres, the building will feature a curving glass facade and reference Hadid’s interest in the Russian Avant-Garde.

“The design reconfigures working relationships and adopts a holistic approach to creating an engaging environment that offers a diversified range of facilities both internally and externally,” project director Christos Passas stated.

The building at Skolkovo will be the first major project Zaha Hadid Architects has secured since the death of its founder last month. To win the contest the firm outshone schemes submitted by such firms such as Foster and Partners and Fuksas.
