Video by Bulgarian artist Gery Georgieva in UK broadcast

Balkan Idol, a video by Bulgarian-born video and performance artist Gery Georgieva, is due to be broadcast on British TV tonight.

The Channel 4 show Random Acts will broadcast a re-edit of Georgieva’s short performance film Balkan Idol tonight at 00.05.

Balkan Idol, premiered as part of Frieze Projects, centres on nightclubs within Bulgaria’s chalga (pop-folk) scene, exploring the relationship of this musical genre with national tradition and cultural identity.

The Calvert Journal will publish an interview with Georgieva later this week.
