New art house cinema opens in St Petersburg
Still from Blancanieves (2012)

21 March 2013

A new cinema specialising in art house films has opened its doors in St Petersburg, promising to bring foreign-language movies to local audiences. The cinema, which seats up to 187 people, is based in the historic Angleterre Hotel, voted one of Russia’s most luxurious hotels on TripAdvisor this year.

In addition to films, the cinema will host special events and masterclasses such as the recent local premiere of Roman Coppola’s new comedy A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, which was attended by the director.

Films scheduled to be shown include La Clinique de l’Amour, which received critical acclaim at the 2012 Cannes International Film Festival; Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects; and Pablo Berger’s silent black-and-white Spanish drama Blancanieves. The project is in association with Cool Connections, organisers of cultural and film events across Russia.
