The Mixtape 34: Lokiboi

16 June 2016
This month’s mixtape comes from London-based Russian DJ and producer Lokiboi. The mixtape he compiled especially for The Calvert Journal is an anthology of contemporary Russian sound, from the experimental pop of the 1990s to the cutting-edge underground producers of today. “The earliest piece comes from St Petersburg duo New Composers and was released in 1996. Moving onwards we have stuff from contemporary Russian musicians and producers such as Mujuice, Myown/Vtgnike, Daycez and AEM Rhythm-Cascade and Buttechno,” Lokiboi says. “There are no specific tempos or genres in this mixtape. Everything is based on the atmosphere, ambience and the artists’ surroundings. A slight feeling of melancholia connects all of those soundscapes together.”
