British screenwriter, playwright and director Christopher Hampton is set to become the first Hollywood representative ever to lead the jury at the Odessa International Film Festival (OIFF), Ukraine’s most prominent international film event.

Hampton is best known for his play based on the novel Les Liaisons dangereuses and the film version Dangerous Liaisons (1988, dir. Stephen Frears), for which he won an Oscar and a BAFTA award, and also more penning the film adaptation of Ian McEwan’s Atonement (2007, dir. Joe Wright).

The international jury will also comprise Ukrainian director Eva Neymann, US actor Alex Ross Perry, British producer Rebecca O’Brien, and Italian producer and director Uberto Pasolini.

Now in its 7th edition, the OIFF consists of the main competition section, the European documentary competition, national competitions for both feature films and shorts, a special Ukrainian retrospective and two sections dedicated to the films enjoying success at recent international festivals. This year’s main competition programme will showcase 12 films, including the Ukrainian/Italian co-production The Nest of the Turtledove (2016, dir.Taras Tkachenko).

The 2016 Odessa International Film Festival will take place from 15–23 July. More information is available on the OIFF official website.
