Pro-Kremlin movement “Anti-maidan” has called on the the Russian Prosecutor General to investigate independent television channel TV Rain for extremist crimes.
According to the group, TV Rain has broken Russian media law on terrorist and extremist groups over 30 times. Under the law, registered media outlets must mention the illegality of any extremist or terrorist group on the Kremlin’s list of banned organisations when mentioned in a published article. Anti-maidan claims that TV Rain has failed to do this when mentioning ISIS.
“Anti-maidan was created to ensure that all political changes happen lawfully. When we discovered that the [TV Rain] television channel was breaking the law, we told the Prosecutor General,” Anti-maidan spokesperson Nikolai Starikov told Russia’s TASS news agency.
“We cannot see any infringements on our website, but we will carefully check again immediately” said TV Rain director Natalia Sindeyeva in a statement to RBC.
