Illegitimate by Romanian director Adrian Sitaru won the award for Best Film at the Odessa International Film Festival (OIFF) on Saturday.

The edgy drama, which takes on the topic of incest, was made on a small budget of just $7,000 and brings together a cast of both professional and nonprofessional actors.

Other films to be honoured at the festival, which took place on Ukraine’s Black Sea Coast, included The Nest of the Turtledove by Taras Tkachenko, which took home the award for Best Ukrainian Film. The festival’s Grand Prix award, which is decided by audience voting, went to British director Chanya Button’s funereal story Burn Burn Burn.

Now in its 7th edition, the OIFF consisted of a main competition section, a European documentary competition, national competitions for both feature films and shorts, a special Ukrainian retrospective and two sections dedicated to the films enjoying success at recent international festivals. The festival took place from 15–23 July. More information is available on the OIFF official website.
