The Power of Storytelling: check out eastern Europe’s only in-depth narrative journalism conference

Do you believe in the power of stories? Unique in eastern Europe, The Power of Storytelling is a conference built around this very idea.

Taking place in Bucharest from 14 – 15 October, The Power of Storytelling brings together storytellers from a rich variety of spheres to explore the power of stories to connect people, to heal wounds, and to be a force for action and change. The theme for this year’s conference is “Dare to Wander”.

Now in its sixth edition, the event draws such diverse participants as writers, marketers, activists, community leaders and entrepreneurs. In past years, winners of Pulitzer Prizes, National Magazine Awards, Emmys have numbered among the speakers, as well as other professionals at the top of their spheres, including writing, editing, music, business and film.

Speakers this year come from a wealth of fields. They include Cătălin Tolontan, one of the most reputable sports and investigative journalists in Romania, and Tara Skurtu, a Boston-based poet, teacher, and translator, currently a Fulbright lecturer in creative writing at Transilvania University of Brașov. Also among the speakers are illustrator and graphic journalist Wendy MacNaughton and Colin Meloy, the singer/guitarist and songwriter for the Portland, OR band The Decemberists.
