iMapp Bucharest: one of the world’s biggest 3D multimedia shows opens tonight

9 September 2016

The 2016 edition of video mapping event iMapp Bucharest launches this evening, bringing some of the world’s best video artists to the Romanian capital. This year’s event centres on the theme of “Dialogue”.

iMapp 2016 will begin tonight with a video mapping show created by Bucharest-based studio Motionlab, illuminating the facade of the city’s Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism. 16 September will see another video mapping show at the Ion Mincu University, this time the work of local video specialists Les Ateliers Nomad.

The climax of the event will come on 24 September, when six selected finalists will showcase their work on the façade of the Palace of Parliament, in front of a huge audience. The finalist teams this year come from Montenegro (Filip Roca), Spain (Romera Diseño e Infografia), Turkey (VOID), Romania (Mindscape Studio), Russia (Illuminarium 3000), and Hungary (Limelight).

iMapp Bucharest is organised by the Municipality of Bucharest through creart — the Centre for Creation, Art and Tradition. The event is produced by 360 Revolution and curated by projection mapping company Maxin10sity.

Video mapping, also known as projection mapping, turns objects, such as buildings, into a display surface for video projection.
