Kollektsia!: Centre Pompidou unveils huge donation of 20th century Russian art

Last week Kollektsia! Contemporary art in the USSR and Russia, 1950-2000 opened at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, comprised of a donation of over 250 20th century Russian artworks.

Presented to the Musée National d’Art Moderne at the Pompidou through the generosity of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation and donations by collectors, artists and their families, the exhibition includes works by 59 artists and art groups. It is curated by Olga Sviblova, the director of the Moscow Multimedia Art Museum, and Nicolas Liucci-Goutnikov, curator at the Musée National d’Art Moderne at the Centre Pompidou.

Kollektsia takes in the most important movements of the second half of the 20th century, from Soviet nonconformist artists such as Vladimir Yakovlev and Francisco Infante; to Erik Bulatov, one of the founders of the Moscow Conceptualist movement; to the contemporary work of the AES+F collective.

These additions will stand alongside works by such modern artists as Wassily Kandinsky, Mikhail Larionov and Natalia Goncharova as major holdings in the Centre Pompidou’s collection of Russian art.

The retrospective exhibition is now open and will be held until 27 March 2017, after which point the pieces will be added to the museum’s permanent collection. More information can be found here.
