Slovakia has selected Marko Škop’s Eva Nova as its submission for the foreign-language film category at the 89th Academy Awards.
Eva Nova sees distinguished actor Emília Vášáryová play an ageing performer whose career is coming to a close, with selfishness contending with compassion during this turbulent time.
The film had its premiere last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, picking up the FIPRESCI prize. It was supported by the Slovak and Czech national film funds, and is a co-production by Artileria with Sirius Films, RTVS and Filmpark.
Could Eva Nova be the film that gets Slovakia onto the foreign-language shortlist for the first time?
