Sediment, an exhibition by Sputnik Photos centering on the post-Soviet space, kicks off this Friday at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw.

The exhibition is the first to take place within the group’s Lost Territories project, which saw members of the Sputnik Photos collective take several thousand photos in the former territory of the Soviet Union between 2008 and 2016. These photos now make up the “Lost Territories Archive” and will serve as the foundation for a range of exhibitions, installations and publications, each of which will centre upon an important aspect of the post-Soviet space.

Curated by Paweł Szypulski, Sediment focuses on the narrative of unfinished and sometimes violent transformation – landscapes devastated by mining, populations building their lives on the ruins of a fallen empire.

Sputnik Photos is an international collective founded in 2006 by documentary photographers from central and eastern Europe.

Sediment will run at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw from 21 October 2016 – 5 February 2017. More information can be found here.
