Sure you’ve seen a unicorn? Convinced someone put a spell on you? If so, you’re not alone. A new survey has revealed that 36 per cent of Russians believe in magic.

The sociological survey, carried out by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center, also revealed that a further 27 per cent of respondents had personally encountered magic. Belief was higher among women than men, and, perhaps unsurprisingly, higher among older people than the younger generations.

Inhabitants of smaller towns and villages were far more likely to report instances of magic. 33 per cent of respondents from Russian villages stated that they had encountered witchcraft or wizardry, whereas 83 per cent of those from the cities of Moscow and St Petersburg claimed they had no such experience.
