Plans have been released for Budapest’s new concert venue and museum, the House of Hungarian Music.
The venue will be one of four new museums being built in Budapest’s 200-year-old Városliget (City Park) as part of the Liget Budapest project, which will also include the New National Gallery, designed by Japanese architecture firm SANAA.
The building will be made up of three storeys, each with a specific function: the ground floor will house a concert hall and an auditorium and the first floor will serve as an educational space, offering interactive music activities and a multimedia library, while the basement will be home to an exhibition about Hungarian music. The design by Japanese architecture studio Sou Fujimoto, which includes glass external walls, aims to create a seamless transition between the natural and built environment.
András Batta, who heads up the project, described the upcoming complex as a “mighty palace of music”.
Constructions is due to start in 2017, with the opening of the House of Hungarian Music set for spring 2018.
