Flaneur magazine explores Moscow’s Boulevard Ring

Take a stroll around Moscow’s Boulevard Ring with the latest edition of Berlin-based independent magazine Flaneur.

In its biggest issue yet, Flaneur takes on a borough rather than its usual single street, exploring a collection of central Moscow districts known as the Boulevard Ring. The 190-page issue includes insider insight from artists, authors, photographers and other local experts.

Expect a wide range of features, including artist Kirill Savchenkov “exploring the cityscape as a training zone for future survival techniques” in Arbatskaya Square, one of Moscow’s oldest squares, and photographer Ksenia Golubovich “visiting her grandmother’s house in Germany, full of artefacts of her former life in native Moscow”.

The studio direction for this edition comes from creative duo Studio Yukiko, who have collaborated with editors-in-chief Grashina Gabelmann and Fabian Saul to ensure that the issue’s design captures the nature of Moscow as much as its content – look out for traditional typography set against monochrome pages with a futuristic feel.

Now in its sixth edition, Flaneur normally focuses on one street per issue, taking a literary approach to the many aspects and layers of each individual street’s character. The content of the magazine is produced with and for Flaneur by artists from a range of disciplines while the team spends two months on location.
