Mobile app “Discover Moscow.Photo” will soon give you the chance to take a selfie with authors Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoyevsky, along with Soviet football legend Lev Yashin.

They will join such familiar names as Alexander Pushkin, Ivan the Terrible and Viktor Tsoi, who are already installed on the app, which will allow Muscovites to “catch” figures from history in the streets of the Russian capital in a Pokémon-style game.

To create the 3D images of the characters, the app’s designers have called upon actors who are able to style themselves according to the relevant era and personality. The characters are captured using a hand-held scanner and adapted for uniformity, after which point they are placed in certain locations on the virtual map of Moscow.

“Discover Moscow.Photo” will be available to download towards the end of the year. The app is supported and organised by the Moscow city authorities.
