Destined to be Happy, the first solo exhibition by Moscow-based artist Irina Korina in London, opens this Friday at the Gallery for Russian Arts and Design (GRAD).
The exhibition introduces six recognisable and reassuring sculptural characters, such as Love and Rainbow, who are placed in an unusual and uncomfortable context — the characters are stripped of their warmth, forcing the audience to face their own socio-political complacency.
Korina’s immersive site-specific audio-visual installation address a number of salient issues, including collective memory and social and cultural history, all the while drawing on the artist’s training as a set designer.
Destined to be Happy will be on at GRAD in central London from 2 December 2016 – 28 February 2017. More information can be found here.
