Social impact: Polish temporary architecture installations among the year’s top projects

13 December 2016

Architecture and design magazine Designboom has listed a temporary installation project in the Polish city of Wrocław among its 2016 top ten reader-submitted social impact initiatives.

Temporary and micro-installation specialists NO studio, based in Wrocław, staged an architectural intervention this summer to restore the city’s forgotten spaces.

NO studio’s founding duo Magda Szwajcowska and Michal Majewski set the project, which formed part of the Lower Silesian Festival of Architecture (DoFA), close to one of the city’s historic bridges.

The installation featured a number of half-chairs, half-sunbeds on disused concrete steps, aiming to entice people to sit down and enjoy the view or sunbathe. Simply titled “microinstallations”, the outdoor furniture showcased a minimalistic design and was made on a very limited budget.
