Preparations are underway in Russia for Game2: Winter, a reality show inspired by the hit film and book series The Hunger Games that will see contestants fight for survival in the Siberian forest, supposedly even to the point of death.

Players will take on a nine-month survival test to compete for a cash prize of 100 million rubles ($1.62 million), which will be shared by any contestants who make it through. They will be allowed to bring up to 100kg of supplies of their choosing to help them survive, although guns are not allowed. Knives, on the other hand, are fair game.

“Each participant accepts that they may be badly hurt and even killed. Real Siberian taiga. 2000 cameras. 900 hectares will be waiting for you,” the man behind the show, Novosibirsk businessman Yevgeny Pyatkovsky, wrote on the programme’s VKontakte social media page.

The organisers have specified that the rules of the game do not prohibit contestants from doing anything — even killing and sexual assault.

“You should understand that the police will come after you. We are on the territory of Russia and should comply with the law, ” the team behind the show was keen to point out, lest anybody with less than honourable intentions should get any ideas.

If it all gets too much, there is a way out — each participant will have a panic button linked to a satellite. If they choose to use it, they will be evacuated from the taiga and out of the running for the prize.

If you think you could survive alongside wolves and bears in temperatures of -40C, this may be the game show for you.
