Follow Estonian photographer Tõnu Runnel on Instagram for a daily dose of inspiration.

Runnel is a photographer, designer and entrepreneur, and his Instagram is a mix of everyday life and almost painting-like stories from Tallinn and Tartu, as well as envy-inducing shots of hikes in the Baltic wilderness. Whether you’re into The X-Files-worthy noir landscapes or architectural clashes of wooden houses and sprawling concrete buildings or even the slightly menacing small town charm, Estonia has it, and Runnel is out there shooting it.

Runnel also coined the term “Eesti blues”, or Estonian blues. As he explains to Estonian World, foggy Baltic winters make for perfect pictures - and even though surviving the long and dark season might be a challenge, there is always beauty in “the dim, wet and somber days of fog and darkness”, and he’s here to draw attention to it.
