London exhibition by Romanian artist Geta Brătescu considers the studio as critical space

Next month, London’s Camden Arts Centre will host The Studio: A Tireless, Ongoing Space, the first major London exhibition for 90-year-old Romanian visual artist Geta Brătescu.

Known for her use of varied media — from textiles and sculpture to film, photography and drawing — Brătescu lived and worked in Bucharest throughout the Ceauşescu years, coming to relish the studio as a space set apart from political or economic influences. The show will reflect on the artist’s use of the studio as a critical personal space for creative practice, contemplation and performance.

Brătescu recently won the opportunity to represent Romania at the Venice Biennale later this year with the project Geta Brătescu — Apparitions (Geta Brătescu — Apariţii).
