Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week lands in Ljubljana

5 April 2017

Last night marked the opening of the fourth edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Ljubljana, with hundreds of fashion fans descending on the city’s exhibition centre to see the best of local talent.

The opening night saw three designers present their new collections.

First up was Ljubljana native Peter Movrin, who is fast making a name for himself internationally — Lady Gaga has been known to step out in some of his creations. His Work in Progress collection centres around brightly coloured jumpsuits and dresses, with huge ruffles and oversized sleeves and legs creating intriguing silhouettes. The most special aspect of this collection, however, cannot be a captured in a photo — at one point the show music was silenced to make way for the echoing rustle of the garments as the models moved.

Croatia-born Berlin-based brand Ivanman is known for combining the classic and the avant-garde. Last night designer Ivan Mandžukić showcased a menswear collection drawing on classic men’s suits with a twist. His minimalistic jackets, trousers and coats appear to still be in the making — a playful take on deconstruction and the very process of putting together a piece of clothing, outfit or collection from individual pieces.

Lastly, Slovenian designer Nataša Peršuh presented Day Before. This collection of dresses and coats is notable particularly for its simplicity — the designer aims to combine haute couture style with functionality, with a marked emphasis on the necessity of movement.
