Riga mayor upstaged by cat in Q&A

13 April 2017

You probably watched the viral BBC interview that saw Korea expert Professor Robert Kelly’s TV appearance gatecrashed by his children. They say you should never work with children or animals — Riga Mayor Nils Ušakovs discovered the second half of this phrase when his recent online Q&A session welcomed a feline visitor.

According to ABC, about 17 minutes into the broadcast a cat walked into shot and started to drink from Mr Ušakovs’s mug.

The question is, did the cat simply want a drink and a moment in the spotlight, or could this be the cutest publicity stunt ever? Either way, Mr Ušakovs has received some unusual bonus exposure ahead of Latvia’s June local elections.
