The State Tretyakov Gallery is already high on the must-see list for most visitors to the Russian capital, and now the iconic gallery is expanding its offering further — art enthusiasts can look forward to the Tretyakov opening its third Moscow campus in 2019.
According to Russian news site M24.ru, citing the gallery’s Deputy General Director for Development, Tatyana Mrdulyash, the new campus will be located on Moscow’s Kadashevskaya embankment.
“The first stage of construction should be completed in October 2018 [....] The opening of the new building is planned for 2019,” Ms Mrdulyash told M24.ru.
As well as a document archive and art restoration studios, the Tretyakov’s new campus will also play host to temporary exhibitions, in addition to conference rooms, restaurants and shops.
Founded in 1892, at present the Tretyakov has two campuses in Moscow — on Lavrushinsky Pereulok, and the New Tretyakov on Krymsky Val.
