Russian media project Zapovednik (Reserve) is unreservedly anti-centralisation, lifting the lid on life beyond the city limits with reporting from throughout the Russian regions. Now Zapovednik is coming to Moscow with an exhibition and cultural programme, encouraging Muscovites to look beyond the capital.
A project of the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM), Zapovednik has collaborated with Moscow’s Brick Design Hotel to bring the Chronicles of Lost Lands exhibition to the Nadja Brykina Gallery. The show, which opened yesterday, features images shot during research trips to Arkhangelsk, Kostroma and Krasnodar.
In addition, a rich programme of events is taking place around the exhibition, including a lecture by sociologist Grigory Yudin about smalltown communities, a talk by culturologist Artem Rondarev on the largely unknown music of the regions, and a screening of Atlantis of the Russian North (2015, dir. Sofia Gorlenko).
Chronicles of Lost Lands will run at Moscow’s Nadja Brykina Gallery until 27 June. You can find a full programme here (in Russian).
