Opera star Plácido Domingo does a Nicolas Cage in Kazakhstan

It seems that Spanish opera star Plácido Domingo took notice of Nicolas Cage’s recent visit to Kazakhstan and the meme-based internet furore that followed.

The acclaimed tenor was photographed clad in in a traditional chapan (kaftan) while attending Expo 2017 in Astana, although his expression was quite different from his predecessor’s — determined, rather than simultaneously distant and alarmed.

Domingo is likely one of the first to benefit from Kazakhstan’s new PR strategy, announced last week, which will see every celebrity guest visiting Kazakhstan receive a chapan.
