Kursk unsinkable: invisible graffiti in Yekaterinburg commemorates submarine disaster

As part of the Stenograffia street art festival in Yekaterinburg, a group of artists have created Kursk Unsinkable — an invisible graffiti monument to the 2000 Kursk submarine disaster.

The 11 m-long inscription of the name “Kursk” was made with a water-repellent spray, allowing it to only be seen during the rain. Situated on the wall of the embankment of the City Pond, the monument commemorates the Kursk submarine disaster, in which 118 personnel perished in the Barents Sea on 12 August 2000.

“[...] the most important thing that we can do is remember. We remember. And we hope that every time it rains, this important word — ‘Kursk’ — will come alive, lamented by the sky and by us,” the team behind the invisible graffiti explained.
