Georgian artist brings Iggy Pop nudes to London’s Royal Academy

5 December 2017

A Georgian artist is among those set to appear at a major new exhibition at London’s Royal Academy of Arts.

Work by Levan Songulashvili will be exhibited as part of From Life, a project celebrating nude and still life drawing over the venue’s 250-year history.

The 26-year-old will display his nude portraits of American rock legend Iggy Pop.

The work was produced during a project led by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller, where the former rockstar sat for 21 artists at the New York Academy of Art in 2016. Four of Songulashvili’s Iggy Pop portraits were chosen for the permanent collection at New York’s Brooklyn Museum earlier this year.

Other artists exhibiting at From Life include Lucian Freud, Chantal Joffe, Anthony Gormley, Jenny Saville and Gillian Wearing.

From Life will take place at the Royal Academy of Arts from 11 December 2017 — 11 March 2018. For more information, click here.
