A new workshop exploring queer identity in eastern European folklore is inviting Londoners to get involved in its latest project.
The special event at The Showroom on 9 December hopes to reclaim forgotten queer narratives at the heart of eastern European folk history.
“Queerness in eastern Europe is often perceived as a contemporary phenomenon that arrived from western Europe, rather than something that always had its presence,” workshop organisers said. “[By] placing queer narratives into folk tradition, we ask to acknowledge its historical place.”
The workshop will use collage to explore and recreate the narratives behind European history and national values. Participants are invited to bring along photographs, magazine, fabrics and objects that they might want to use to express their own experiences.
