Trade and transport in a globalised world

15 May 2013

A travelling exhibition exploring trade, traffic and transport in a globalised world will showcase the work of ten artists from around the world, including St Petersburg-based photographer Alexey Tikhonov.

The Amber Road Show, which runs until 28 July at Fluss gallery in Wolkersdorf in lower Austria before going on tour around the country, looks at the ancient trade route, which once transferred the gemstone around the world. The Amber Road was used for centuries, connecting Europe to Asia and northern Africa to Mediterranean Sea.

Tikhonov’s Roadside Attractions series, which features in the exhibition, captures the sense of adventure that comes with travelling on the open road despite the commercialised world we live in. The 37-year-old philosophy graduate has worked as a photojournalist since 2001.
