Moscow officials have rolled out a government-backed baby box scheme to a bid to help new parents across the Russian capital.
Based on a popular Finnish initiative, the scheme will see new parents receive a box from the Moscow Mayor’s Office filled with 44 different newborn must-haves. The items, which include clothes, nappies, a blanket and a bath set, are all sourced from Russian companies, while the box itself can also be used as the child’s first crib.
“[The box means that] parents will only have to worry about the important things during their child’s first few days — such as their new baby,” Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote on Twitter.
The initiative is currently only available to Russian citizens who are registered as living in the Moscow city region.
