Join the Polish artist reclaiming eastern Europe’s queer history with a special London screening and talk by Calvert 22 Foundation.
Mixed-media artist Katarzyna Perlak uses her work to explore queer love, migration and national tradition. She will be screening her short film I Once Had a Lover (Niolam Ja Se Kochaneczke) as well as more recent work at a dedicated event on 14 February.
“I questioned why queer love has never been preserved and celebrated in the folk history”, Perlak says. “I reclaimed these stories by subverting the narrative of “straight” love songs to represent queer love stories instead”.
The screening accompanies The Calvert Journal‘s special series Being LGBTQ, celebrating LGBTQ culture, politics and life in the New East throughout spring 2018.
Katarzyna Perlak: I Once Had a Lover screening and artist talk will run at the Calvert 22 Foundation’s exhibition space in Shoreditch from 7:00 pm — 9:00 pm. Tickets are avaliable via Eventbrite on a pay what you wish basis. For more information, or to book your place, click here.
