SOS Brutalism: the campaign saving unloved architecture in the New East and beyond

23 February 2018

A campaign to save the threatened gems of brutalist architecture has launched a new exhibition celebrating the hulking “concrete monsters” that dominate post-Soviet skylines.

#SOSBrutalism has a growing database of over 1000 brutalist buildings, including tens across the New East. It serves as a fundraising and campaign platform to protect and preserve threatened examples of the controversial 20th century movement, many of which are crumbling from neglect of face demolition. The team released a global survey in November 2017, documenting 120 iconic brutalist buildings from across the globe.

#SOSBrutalism is now on show at Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, until 2 April. For more information, click here.
