‘Sustainable. Genderless. Ironic’ is the motto for this new Russian brand that just wants you to stay warm.
Vatnique is a new outerwear label from St Petersburg producing one-size unisex quilted jackets from sustainable materials. The jackets are produced in limited quantities with the aim of reducing fabric waste. All jackers cost 15,000 rubles ($240) and are currently only available for purchase through the label’s Instagram account.
The label’s name is a ironic French take on the word “vatnik”, a traditional Russian quilted jacket which was the most popular outerwear in the 19th century. In modern Russia, the word is also used as a slang term for a blind patriot.
The brand plans to launch a separate online store soon.
