Organised in partnership with UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies and Centrala Space, Birmingham.

This event runs alongside the exhibitions Family Values: Polish Photography Now at Calvert 22 Foundation and 100 Years, So What? at Centrala Space, and the conference Impacts of Gender Discourse at UCL SSEES.

Rescuing and Reclaiming: Aesthetics & Communism, Contemporary Art & Women Rights

Introduction by chair Dr Urszula Chowaniec, culture and literary specialist at UCL SSEES, and welcome by Hannah Zafiropoulos, assistant curator at Calvert 22 Foundation.

A presentation of the project A Portrait of Lower Silesia, inspired by Zofia Rydet, by Dr Ewa Sidorenko, Greenwhich University.

A discussion on the role of the socialist past on projects like the Sociological Record by Polish women artists from the exhibition 100 Years, So What? at Centrala Space: Iwona Demko, Dorota Hadrian, Małgorzata Dawidek, and Alicja Rogalska.
