Sci-fi and lingerie come together with Ukrainian label Zhilyova

Ukrainian lingerie label Zhilyova has created an enticing futuristic world for its new collection, titled Nebula. In the fluorescent lights cutting through the darkness, the viewer is invited to muse on the connection between the beauty, energy, and potential of the human body. Lingerie here is not an ornament but a way to find your inner superpower.

“I have been fascinated by sci-fi futurism ever since I can remember,” says the label’s founder, Valeria Zhilyova. A gamer and sci-fi reader, Zhilyova also cites the 1970s works of American painters Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell amongst her influences for their “mythical creatures” and “dominant, powerful women”. “The Nebula drop represents galactical infinite energy nursing new stars in this universe,” she adds.

Together with the director Natalia Ivanova, the design team say that they wanted to portray each model as a superhero or heroine in their own right. Sheer bodycon garments in bold colours and with prints resembling geometric patterns or colourful spilled petrol accentuate the body shapes and movement.

The designer, who set up Zhilyova in 2014 with a focus on sustainability, has herself a futuristic vision for the upcoming processes of fashion production. “I hope that one day we will be able to recycle and repurpose our clothes in our homes, without mass producing anything,” she explains.
