Pussy Riot to star in House of Cards episode

Pussy Riot members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina are set to star in an upcoming episode of American megahit TV series House of Cards, a local US newspaper reported. A source working for the programme’s production company told weekly newspaper City Paper that both Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina were on the set of the TV show in Baltimore on Friday, shooting an episode for season 3 of the show, which is expected to be released in early 2015.

Only last month, a request from House of Cards to film scenes at the UN Security Council chamber was vetoed by Russia’s United Nations delegation, in a move widely considered to be a symptom of the current power play between Russia and the US. In an email seen by Foreign Policy, Russian diplomat Mikael Agasandyan cited the need to keep “the Security Council premises available at any time and on short notice … [the] premises are not an appropriate place for filming, staging, etc.”
