Dislocation: second wave of Unsound Krakow 2016 artists announced

A second wave of artists taking part in Krakow’s Unsound festival has been announced, many of whom build on the theme of Dislocation — the central idea around which this year’s festival is organised.

Given this theme in the wake of the recent Brexit vote, Unsound will give more prominence this year to UK artists, especially in the form of collaborative work. This includes London-based sound artist and experimental musician Helm performing together with the Embassy for the Displaced collective from Greece and Russian musician Moa Pillar, in a piece exploring Siberia, featuring personally sourced audio and film, including footage taken around Novosibirsk and the Altai Mountains.

New East participants also include Kyrgyz musician Askat Jetegin, who will perform Gletschermusik with Germany’s Robert Lippok and visual artist Lillevan. The work merges field recordings made of melting glaciers with electronic music, traditional Kyrgyz instruments and song.

Unsound Festival is an annual music festival that takes place in Kraków, Poland, centering on experimental and evolving forms of music and visual arts. This year’s festival will be held from 16–23 October. An array of related events also take place around the festival; surrounding the Dislocation theme, Unsound will present events in various cities in Russia, Central Asia, the Caucasus and beyond from 2016–2018.
